Summer has been crazy...super crazy. I'm going to scrapbook some of it for my own pleasure, you can scroll past if you wish ;)
I went to Florida! With one child!
I love Florida, and the trip started out with a good sign, as seen below.
My daughter was insistent on stopping once we reached the line (and at that point we had seen enough ads for hell and heaven among those for a magnolia pecan plantation for a lifetime).
The kids love a Dolphin Tale, so she had to get a picture with the statue of Winter the dolphin from the Clearwater Aquarium. On a sad point, I had visited The South Florida Museum a couple of years ago and was able to see Snooty. I love manatees with a passion, and it was sad hearing about his passing last weekend.
I think this was the true reason for stopping. Along with portraits of Minnie and Mickie Mouse splattered across most of the brochures inside.
I always want to go to Silver Springs when we go visit my grandmother. She puts up with it rather well since she regularly drives past it all the time. It's a magical land of clear water and alligators for me, so I get excited. Things seen at Silver Springs before: Mama and baby otter, adult and baby alligators, monkeys (Don't ever smile at a monkey, this was a warning on a jeep tour before they shut it down and turned Silver Springs into a state park. They are apparently fond of ripping faces off, and smiling is a sign of aggression. So don't do that).
The pelt and otter display didn't bother me as much as the stuffed mama and baby bears...seriously now. When my daughter went by the otter display she kept petting it, then turned to me and said it made her sad. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
We were also able to go to Ormond Beach on the east cost of Florida. It was super pretty, but the tide was very high when we went, so we were able to go to the walk-on beach (instead of the drive-on). They had amazingly high-tech accommodations for Florida, like a deluxe multi-person outdoor shower (with feet hoses), along with board racks, and multiple large bathrooms. I guess if you are more of a touristy area they are trying to update. I grew up on the west coast, so we were lucky if we had bathrooms near the parking. EVEN THOUGH I GREW UP ON ONE OF THE WHITEST BEACHES IN THE WORLD. Jeeze.
