I received an ARC copy of this book through Net Galley as I was wandering through their website late one night. It looked artsy and interesting so I decided to give it a try.

I will say that Katie seems fresh and happy with life, and I have no doubt she's helped many young women turn things around with the help of this book.  I would definitely say this book is aimed for a young audience.  Other specialists and gurus are mentioned frequently through the pages, most likely to help give a taste to younger readers who haven't had as much experience in the self discovery areas of their lives.

  • There are many positive things about Let it Out, one of them being that you can come and go from its pages as you like.  There are dozens of tactics she uses to journal.  They are split into sections so that what you feel you need to focus on is easy to find. I wouldn't recommend trying to thoroughly journal every single point, you'll give yourself a meltdown.  Instead, make a commitment to a couple and start a schedule, or you're going to get burnt out super fast.
  • There does seem to be some focus about body issues in this book.  My concern about this is that people may be sensitive to it.  I have never been anorexic, but I'm not sure if her approach would make things better or worse.  If you're sensitive to these things, I would feel out her approach and see if it would be a negative or positive influence on how you handle your body issues before fully delving into how she manages food and weight.
  • There seems to be a thorough handling of many hot topics or trigger points.  From body image, doing better at work, to being more grateful for what you have, it covers a vast array of subjects.
  • If you like Elizabeth Gilbert, this book is in the same vein as her philosophies and the way she handles art and inspiration.
  • Let it Out also helps to walk you through emotional anxieties.  I really think this is good for people who don't really know where to start on self discovery.  Katie is very specific and lays out ground rules and directions in order to do exactly what each tool tries to do.

Overall, I think it's a great book for a younger audience that wants to try some self discovery. For older readers, they may have already encountered a lot of these techniques or have already figured them out for themselves, but it's a great step in enlightenment for someone who's new to self help and just needs a nudge in the right direction.

It's just me and the two Furbies that are screaming on my desk. I'm a young adult writer, thinker of things, and retired roller derby girl.  AMA!!! (just joking, but you can)

I do not claim ownership of pictures unless specifically stated.  I try to use original sources so that they can easily be reverse searched.  I also try to make sure I get art with the watermark or signature still attached.  I source a lot of pictures from my Pinterest too, so the artist is easy to find.  If you have any questions about any postings please contact me.
